October 1, 2014 – DOE announced the release of EnergyPlus Version 8.2, the most advanced energy simulation engine available to architects, engineers and building designers. First released in 1997, EnergyPlus was originally written in Fortran and needed to be upgraded for improving speed and usability. Autodesk teamed with Objexx to translate more than 700,000 lines of code to C++, which currently provides about 20% improvement in speed. Starting with this version, EnergyPlus is available through the open source platform GitHub at https://github.com/NREL/EnergyPlusRelease/releases. Autodesk is committed to further speed improvements to EnergyPlus. Stay tuned for further announcement on Autodesk support for Green Building Studio and Revit users to take advantage of using EnergyPlus for their building simulation needs.
