A while ago, I wrote a blog post on the creation and use of Property Sets in AutoCAD Civil 3D (2016 and 2017) to enrich the geometry model with additional non-graphical data that is of use in your project.
I very often get the question if Civil 3D can providecreate IFC files with these extended properties. The simpla answer is yes.
It should be no secret that we have added IFC export capabilities in the 2016 release of AutoCAD Civil 3D already.
So the real question now is how this IFC exporter works with the new capabilities of property sets in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
The answer to that question is very simple: the IFC exporter also exports the assigned property sets with the geometry.

- An IFC file can be exported from AutoCAD Civil 3D by typing the command IFCEXPORT or using the civil 3D menu -> Export -> IFC
- IFC currently has no structure in place for Infrastructure objects, that is why they are exported to objects of the type IFCBUILDINGELEMENTPROXY.
- Currently only 3D solids will be exported to IFC. (These solids can be automatically created from Civil 3D corridor models)
