Working in a dual screen environment is very common now. Unfortunately AutoCAD applications sometimes get confused with this dual screen environment. It often seems like AutoCAD treats the second monitor not as a separate screen, rather it considers that the size of the existing screen 'grew'. Or perhaps AutoCAD has not realised that the second monitor is now unavailable.
In my scenario, I tried to open a DWG file from Vault using AutoCAD 2014. But nothing happened and I could not open the file. AutoCAD kept 'thinking' and I assumed there was some problem in the file, so I killed the application and tried to reopen it. Then I repaired the DWG but apparently AutoCAD still was not able to open the DWG. After a long struggle to figure out what was wrong I realized that a dialog was 'hidden' somewhere.
Now how do I find my hidden dialog? It's a simple solution (but not an obvious one!).
Let's assume you lost an 'Open File' dialog, and it is off screen - where the second screen used to be.
1. To get the dialog back to the left side of the screen, press Alt+Spacebar and a drop down menu appears that consists of Move, Size and Close as activated options.
2. Select the 'Move' option and hit Enter. Now the dialog is in 'Move' mode.
3. You can use the Arrow Keys on your keyboard to move th dialog to the right place on your screen for use!
So next time you are staring at the screen wondering where that dialog is, perhaps you can use this tip to bring it back into view
