Is that possible?? Yes it is!
Does it make sense? Yes for example for the Reactive Molding process if only heaters are in use.
In the area of reactive molding (thermosets), molds sometimes have only electric heating elements and no heating/cooling circuits.
The picture shows a temperature plot of the mold. 6 Heater cartriges heat the mold.
In addition, even for thermoplastics, sometimes small molds for very small parts are designed without cooling circuits.
Even if no cooling lines are present, you might want to perform a mold cooling analysis to see temperature distribution and by this to confirm that no cooling lines are required or to capture any differential temperature effects on part warp
So yes it make sense and it is possible to run a cool (FEM) analysis without cooling channels.
Possible since release 2013.
Many thanks to Franco Costa and Clinton Kietzmann for this development and to give me their support for this article.
